Sinric the Wanderer

"It is success and burdens you have now. Though they may carry into the future. The next card is for your hopes and fears." He lays it above the last, the Ace of Coins. "This can mean either security - in money or otherwise - or health. Or both."

"Let us hope that it is security in the greatest treasure you took from England." Sinric whispers softly.

Ragnar puts his arms around Sinric, holding him and panting, until his breathing slows down, and he comes down from the aftershocks of fierce pleasure as well.

"Sinric."

"I hope so," Ragnar says. "It tells me good things, in any case. Thank you for that, John Childermass."

He smiles at Childermass and then, encouragingly, at Sinric, whose turn it will be next.

Sinric moans as Ragnar softens and slips from him, still curled up on Ragnar's chest. He eventually manages to shift to one side, falling gracelessly and bonelessly into the furs.

Ragnar chuckles, and then accepts the water bottle he's given. "Thank you," he says to Lock. "Viking machine people. There could be worse."

Ragnar pulls the furs over them and gathers Sinric close. "Let's not move for a bit," he says, closing his eyes.

Not to sleep, he thinks, just to rest them for a bit as eyelids feel heavy.

Jay chuckles. "Now there's a scary thought!"

"May I sing to them?" Sinric asks softly. "I don't know anything quite as wise as the epic of Ragnar's people but I know many songs from my own court."

Jay nods and gestures him to go on if he wants to.

Ragnar has a few sips of water, then offers the bottle to Sinric to wet his throat before he starts.

"Yes. Perfect." Sinric on the other hand is somewhat wiped out and curls up happily in a light doze. His hand rests on Ragnar's chest, just over his heart.

"There is one more card to draw for you. The outcome, or the future several months away."

When he draws, he finds it to actually be two cards stuck together, frowns at them, then unsticks them and lays both down in their place. The Six of Cups and the Ace of Wands.

"This means... someone or something from the past, and simple joys. The other can mean a new start or a new endeavour, or an upwelling of energy."

Sinric nods his thanks and wets his lips and throat before beginning to sing.

He chooses a simple child's song at first and is a little shocked when the drones pick up the tune and in their own humming tones, sing back the repeats.

Ragnar, of course,,starts snoring softly after no more than two minutes, whatever he had been thinking before.

The little catch of the cards makes Sinric smile. "It would seem the cards have their own voice and would have it heard."

Ragnar grins at that, and puts his arm around the startled Sinric in a gesture of affection and protectiveness.

"Someone from the past," Ragnar says. "Who knows, Sinric, we might yet find you after all."

"Oh, they do", Childermass says with a quick crooked smile, gathering the cards back up and reshuffling the pack. "And now it is your turn. Ready?"

"I await your magic, sir." Sinric nods with the smallest note of trepidation.

"I am curious what the cars will say, too," Ragnar adds.

He decides to give Sinric the same spread as Ragnar.

"Your present situation." The Two of Swords. "Waiting. Maybe trying to find balance."

"Just so." Sinric sighs. "Waiting for a day I wish would never come."

Sinric leans into the touch gratefully but doesn't let the song fall, instead he switches to a more complex song, still one of call and answer that the drones take up eagerly.

Jay notices the youth's surprise and give the adults a subtle signal to chill. He doesn't want them frightening Sinric in their enthusiasm.
