Sinric takes Athelstan's hand and leads him through an almost invisible door and down a couple of seemingly perfectly flat hallways that somehow open out onto the rooftop and a little flat terrace with a view of the eastern sky.

Sinric clearly spends some time up here because the spot is furnished with a daybed big enough to lay on or for two to sit together comfortingly and is draped with soft furry blankets of a cloth unknown in their time.

He helps Athelstan to the daybed and sits with him, setting the flask aside for now. The stars are still clear in the sky, even as dawn smudges the horizon with warmth.

"Then I shall keep showing you my love", he promises. "And this weakness of body will pass."

Sinric nods and smiles, drawing Athelstan into a long, slow kiss. One that speaks of love deeper than the pleasures of the flesh.

Athelstan presses into it, parting his lips to deepen the kiss with all the love in the world.

Sinric's tongue darts between those parted lips, tasting his lover with a soft moan.

Athelstan makes a quiet sound in response, and his tongue flicks up to meet Sinric's.

Their tongues entwined, Sinric's draws back to his own lips, inviting Athelstan to follow, to taste him.

He follows without thought, and for once forgetting his pain, to kiss Sinric more deeply still.

Sinric kisses with passion, moaning and opening himself utterly to Athelstan. His hand on Athelstan's hair tightens, pressing their lips together.

"Sinric." It's somewhere between a moan and a murmur, and he presses their bodies close together as they kiss.

Sinric smiles, his heart dancing to hear his proper name spoken with such passion. "Beloved Athelstan." He whispers, rubbing his silken cheek against the downy black beard of Athelstan's.

"I shall cling to this memory", he says, pulling back just a breath. "And carry you and Ragnar with me in my loneliness."

"As I carry you on my heart. My calm centre and my place of safety in the storm." Sinric whispers in promise as he kisses Athelstan again, his lips soft and welcoming.

"And when you're on the road", he says into the kiss, "we'll be with you."

"I hope so." He smiles lightly. "I think I will need you very much while I'm learning not to be such a pampered pet and to live in the world outside the walls."

That gets Athelstan to pull back again, studying his face.

"We could be really with you, you know. At least some of the time."

"I know." Sinric answers, cupping Athelstan's cheek and stroking it lightly. "I know you and Ragnar would protect me from any peril if I asked. But this path is mine and I want to walk it, no matter how hard I know it will be. I'm not afraid, just aware."

"If you find yourself in more peril than you can get out of", he says, "promise you'll try to get here."

"I will." Sinric assures him with a soft kiss. "I will always come here in times of need. It is my haven after all, and you and Ragnar both my guides and guardians."

"And so we will stay." He kisses Sinric again. "As long as you need us."

Sinric sighs into the kiss, stroking Athelstan's cheek and pressing against him.

For all his desire, his body isn't playing along just yet, dysfunction probably caused by the trauma more than anything at this point.

Athelstan presses back against Sinric, though, enjoying the feeling of the contact.

Sinric understand that all too well. His touch and kisses stay above Athelstan's waist, happy just to enjoy his company. "Are you thirsty? I brought tea but I forgot all about it. I hope it's still warm."

"Tea would be welcome", he agrees. "And - those flasks keep warmth in, don't they?"

"I think so," He slips from under their mound of blankets, bare breasted and naked to the waist as he fetches back the flask. "Indeed! it is still warm and wonderful." He pouts some out into the cap, make to be used as a cup and offers it to Athelstan.

Athelstan watches him until he returns, then takes the cup and drinks.

"Very good tea."
