Sinric the Wanderer

"He gets food," Ragnar grins. "Even scholars on research need to eat."

He puts an arm around Sinric, and knocks as well.

If Athelstan is awake and not doing anything else, he's reading. He glances up, surprised to have visitors as in the back of his mind, he doesn't expect Ragnar to knock at that door, then gets up to open it.

"...am I the one being fed, today?"

From:

"Yes." Sinric smiles, leaning into Ragnar's arm. It's very clearly a good day from his smile alone. "The bar tried to overfed Ragnar and I so we thought you might need something too. Or perhaps she knew we would. There are three bottles of ale, after all."

"With a bottle opener," Ragnar adds helpfully. "And meat and cheese and breads, and spicy dips from where Sinric is from, called things like hummus and yoghurt. Yoghurt is a bit like skyr."

"I like skyr", he says cheerfully. "Come in, I must admit I forgot to have breakfast."

From:

"Then she was right to send us with so much." He smiles, dancing past Athelstan to lay the food out on the table, careful of Athelstan's books.

From:

"And you didn't have anything else since breakfast, either?" Ragnar asks, looking at Athelstan as he takes the bottles and the opener from the basket.

From:

"...what time is it?"

He had the vague idea it was lunchtime.

From:

"Late afternoon." Sinric teases, a little more energetic than he has been since- Well, since he came back.

"I was by the lake all day, looking at maps!" Ragnar says, brandishing the atlas he'd brought up as well -- no leaving books outside!

From:

"I lost track of time." Now he's been reminded about food, his stomach rumbles.

From:

Sinric had the table covered in bowls of dips, cheeses and cold cuts of meat and bread. "Here, you must try this. It's hummus." He offers a piece of flat bread with dip to Athelstan before making quick work of slicing apples and pears to go with their cheese.

"It's very tasty," Ragnar says, putting the bottles and the opener on the table as well, a bit awkwardly.

He bites into the bread and makes an approving face.

"What's it made of?"

From:

"Chickpeas and garlic mostly."

He offers Ragnar a slice of pear as he too examines the bottle opener. "Now, how do we make this work?"

From:

Ragnar eats that slice of pear and looks sheepish.

From:

"Let me see." He takes up the bottle opener. "Well, it must surely be to do with this strangely shaped slot."

From:

Sinric watches with interest as Athelstan picks up the tool. "Maybe it goes under the cap somehow? To force it off."

From:

"It doesn't seem to screw, the way other lids from the future do," Ragnar says, peering hopefully.

From:

"I think Sinric's on to something." He studies the slot for a moment, then tries to get it where it needs to be.

From:

Sinric continues slicing his pear, offering to feed Athelstan a slice as he fiddles with the bottle, the juice of it dripping over his fingers.

"I think I saw people from the future sort of lift their elbows when opening a bottle," Ragnar says, "but it could have been the screwing variety."

"It might have been. But if this is a lever..."

He opens his mouth to let Sinric feed him the pear.

Sinric's touch lingers a moment as he feeds Athelstan the slice of fruit, fingertips brushing Athelstan's lips. He can feel his cheeks flush softly as warm thoughts heat his face.
