Sinric takes Athelstan's hand and leads him through an almost invisible door and down a couple of seemingly perfectly flat hallways that somehow open out onto the rooftop and a little flat terrace with a view of the eastern sky.

Sinric clearly spends some time up here because the spot is furnished with a daybed big enough to lay on or for two to sit together comfortingly and is draped with soft furry blankets of a cloth unknown in their time.

He helps Athelstan to the daybed and sits with him, setting the flask aside for now. The stars are still clear in the sky, even as dawn smudges the horizon with warmth.

To bring Sinric pleasure, in return for his loving help and comfort, is all Athelstan wants right now.

One hand skims over Sinric's breast.

Sinric lays back, passive and welcoming, allowing Athelstan access to whatever he desires. The touch at his breasts makes Sinric gasp, his large nipples hardening swiftly through the thin linen shift.

Athelstan shifts to cover him, making an effort not to pin him down, and follows the path of his fingers with his mouth.

He's easier about being covered than he is about being touched near the throat or having someone at his back and sighs happily at the kisses.

He pulls at the ribbons to loosen them all the way, allowing Athelstan to strip him to the waist with ease should he want to.

He pushes the shift aside, letting his hands brush Sinric's skin as he does so.

"You only have to say", he murmurs against Sinric's shoulder, "and I'll stop."

"Beloved, I would not have you stop for all the world." He moans softly, his hand still brushing over Athelstan's hair. "I feel such joy with you."

"Then I won't." He kisses Sinric's shoulder again, trying to work himself up to more than kisses and caresses if he can.

Sinric flexes one leg to rub his bare ankle agonist Athelstan's calf, pressing his hip gently upward in encouragement.

If kisses and touches are all Athelstan is ready for, then Sinric will take it and gladly.

Athelstan lets their legs tangle together, bringing him closer.

"I know you've said", he whispers, "that this is enough. But I feel I'm letting you down."

Sinric touches his lips to hush him, following it with the brush of his lips. "The love you have given me matters more than any physical pleasure we share. Just to know that you care for me is enough."

"Then I shall keep showing you my love", he promises. "And this weakness of body will pass."

Sinric nods and smiles, drawing Athelstan into a long, slow kiss. One that speaks of love deeper than the pleasures of the flesh.

Athelstan presses into it, parting his lips to deepen the kiss with all the love in the world.

Sinric's tongue darts between those parted lips, tasting his lover with a soft moan.

Athelstan makes a quiet sound in response, and his tongue flicks up to meet Sinric's.

Their tongues entwined, Sinric's draws back to his own lips, inviting Athelstan to follow, to taste him.

He follows without thought, and for once forgetting his pain, to kiss Sinric more deeply still.

Sinric kisses with passion, moaning and opening himself utterly to Athelstan. His hand on Athelstan's hair tightens, pressing their lips together.

"Sinric." It's somewhere between a moan and a murmur, and he presses their bodies close together as they kiss.

Sinric smiles, his heart dancing to hear his proper name spoken with such passion. "Beloved Athelstan." He whispers, rubbing his silken cheek against the downy black beard of Athelstan's.

"I shall cling to this memory", he says, pulling back just a breath. "And carry you and Ragnar with me in my loneliness."

"As I carry you on my heart. My calm centre and my place of safety in the storm." Sinric whispers in promise as he kisses Athelstan again, his lips soft and welcoming.

"And when you're on the road", he says into the kiss, "we'll be with you."

"I hope so." He smiles lightly. "I think I will need you very much while I'm learning not to be such a pampered pet and to live in the world outside the walls."

That gets Athelstan to pull back again, studying his face.

"We could be really with you, you know. At least some of the time."
